Real Life

April 19, 2012 By Tracy

I started Week 2 of Nutrisystem super excited!  And I’m happy to say, I am still super excited! This week I faced a few challenges. It was the first time that my family wanted take out, and we were invited to a crawfish boil. I ate my meal while my family had takeout and it didn’t bother me at all. Did I have crawfish? Yes, I did! But I am so happy to say, I ate a very small portion. I stayed away from the dip and the potatoes, so all in all I think I did pretty well.

Week 2:

Starting Weight: 129.2

Lost: .7 pounds

Ending Weight: 128.5

Total Weight Lost: 3.8 pounds

One thing that I absolutely LOVE about the program is the variety. It really makes it easy because I can choose what I feel like eating each day, and it’s not always the same thing. If my family is having lasagne, I’ll pick one of my lasagne meals. If they are having pizza, I pick one of pizza meals. I really like the pizza by the way because I can load on the veggies, and it is so delicious!

This week I had $50 to spend on some awesome deals, and I thought with Mother’s Day right around the corner, why not do some shopping for myself. There’s nothing wrong with buying your own gifts, right? I didn’t think so!

The first deal to grab my attention on BradsDeals.com was the Up To 90% Off Easter Weekend Blowout Sale @ Szul. (You are not going to believe this deal.) I found this BEAUTIFUL 1/6 Carat T.W Diamond Cross Pendant in .925 Sterling Silver. Yes… real diamonds! Regular price was $289.00 and it was on sale for $199.00, BUT with the HUGE Easter Sale the Special Price was just $34.50!!!! SCORE! Oh yeah and shipping was FREE!  (Saved $254.50)

Currently I’m saving up my SwagBucks and SuperPoints to purchase a Kindle Fire, so when I spotted this Kindle Fire Premium Black Polyurethane Leather Case with Viewing Stand Regular $39.99, but marked down to just $4.86 at Buy.com I knew I had to snatch it up. Even with the $2.98 shipping this was a great deal! (Saved $35.13)

While I was browsing around Buy.com, which offers FREE shipping on most items, I came across this 6 pack of iPhone Premium Screen Guard Protectors with antiglare function and 6 micro fiber cleaning cloths included priced at just $3.14 and FREE shipping. (Regular price $29.99) I’m going to share these with some family members, so I grabbed 3 packs. That’s a total cost of $9.42. (Saved $80.55)

So here’s how it all looks:

$34.50 Diamond Cross Pendant (Reg. $289)

$4.86 Kindle Fire Case w/Stand (Reg. $39.99)

$9.42 (3 packs) of 6 iPhone Screen Protectors (Reg. $89.97)

$48.78 Total Cost Paid  ($418.96 Regular Cost Total)

That’s a total savings of $370.18!!

I started the Nutrisystem program last Monday (April 9th) weighing 132.3 pounds. I want to lose 22.3 pounds within the next 4 months getting to my goal weight of 110 pounds. I’ll be posting weekly updates the entire time that I am on the program.

Week 1:

Starting Weight: 132.3

Lost: 3.1 pounds

Ending Weight: 129.2

So far I have really enjoyed everything I’ve been eating. The 64 oz of water I am suppose to drink everyday, has been a challenge, but is getting much easier. My biggest challenge this week was Easter! We have a big family bar-b-q every year, and I didn’t know what I was going to eat. Well I am happy to say that I did really well and made some really smart choices. I followed my normal Nutrisystem breakfast routine, but for lunch I ate on my own. I had hubby grill me some mushrooms, peppers, and zucchini (which were just delicious) and ate them with a  pork chop. Then for supper I ate a burger with my left over veggies. I only had a little tasting of the potato salad and a couple bites of dessert. I am now looking forward to Week 2!

This morning, I learned of a fellow blogger’s passing.  I had not read her blog before this morning, but her story touched me deeply. Susan Niebur, of Toddler Planet passed away yesterday of Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). 9 1/2 years ago, I lost my mother-in-law to the same horrible disease. One, that at the time, I had never heard of. You see while it is so important to do your monthly self breast exams, it is also very important to be aware of any changes to your breasts. Inflammatory Breast Cancer is a very rare and aggressive form of breast cancer that does not present it self with a lump.  Because IBC forms in thin sheets and not lumps, it is often not detectable through mammograms or ultrasounds. I have more information here, along with links to a few websites so that you can educate yourself on this form of breast cancer. And please keep Susan’s family in your prayers.

I just CAN NOT stop smiling!!! I mean look at all those beautiful faces! I see one thing… H A P P I N E S S! Happiness that came with just having one basic need meant. A need that you and I take for granted everyday – everytime we walk out the door. We put them on without even a second thought, well except for maybe trying to decide on which ones we should choose. A simple but necessary item. SHOES! Yes, all those smiles are the result of a NEW Pair of Shoes! If you’ve been a reader for any length of time, I’m sure you have heard me mention the beautiful children of the Grace Baptist Care Point in Kombolcha, Ethiopia. These children stole my heart a long time ago, and I have been waiting for the day when they were to receive their new shoes. You see last year a team from Children’s HopeChest traveled to Kombolcha and returned with the news that some of the children’s greatest needs were shoes and school uniforms.

The children travel on foot daily to the care-point where they receive at least one meal a day and an education. And as you can see, the shoes they were wearing…well, I’d barely even call them shoes. So, today my heart is smiling knowing for them tomorrow’s walk will be just a little bit easier.

I would also like to say Thank You to all of you that took part in my Father’s Day Card fundraiser last year which helped raise enough money for 23 pairs of shoes!  Now on to those school uniforms!! To learn more about the care-point at Grace Baptist or to sponsor a child click here.

When my kids were younger, I’d just laugh at the thought of reading a book.  Now, they are older and I’m actually finding more time to read…and not just the cereal box at breakfast.  So, here’s a list of the books that I am planning to read in 2012. This will be an ever growing list (I hope).

The Secret Holocaust Diaries: The Untold Story of Nonna Bannister- I’ve read this one, and you can see my thoughts on this book here.

The Cause within You by Matthew Barnett

Have a New Kid by Friday: How to Change Your Child’s Attitude, Behavior & Character in 5 Days By Dr. Kevin Leman

Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God by Francis Chan

Miracle for Jen: A Tragic Accident, a Mother’s Desperate Prayer, and Heaven’s Extraordinary Answer

As a family we are also reading 100 Bible Stories, 100 Bible Songs. I LOVE this book. I’ll be posting more about it soon!

What books are on your list for 2012?

If you’ve been a reader here for a while, you will probably remember baby Tripp whom I’ve mentioned on several occasions or perhaps you’ve noticed the “Praying For Tripp” button in my sidebar. It breaks my heart to tell you that baby Tripp lost his fight to EB Saturday. While there is peace in knowing Tripp is no longer in pain, please keep his family in your prayers during this very difficult time.

Tripp has undoubtedly touched many lives, and I’d love for you to  read why Tripp is my hero, and will forever hold a very special place in my heart. If you have not read about Tripp, and his incredible mom, Courtney,  I encourage you to read Courtney’s blog here.

RIP Baby Tripp (Heaven’s Little Drummer Boy). We will never forget what you taught us!
