30 Day Giving Challenge

November 4, 2010 By Tracy

So I discussed with my family the 30-Day Giving Challenge which we are so happy to be participating in, and we came up with a few ideas. Obviously, we will not be giving in the form of money every day, but we did pick a few organizations in which we would like to make small donations to throughout the month. The first one that we decided on was Living Water International. I loved the family discussions that came out of this donation. My four year old was having quite a time comprehending that some people do not have running water in their home, so she has been asking ALOT of questions. In fact this morning, during breakfast she asked, “How are we going to get the drinks to the people?” Huh? So she continued, “You know the people without the faucets.” OH! Gotta love questions like this from a 4 year old

Another donation will be our shoebox gifts to Operation Christmas Child. (Collection dates: November 15th – 22nd)

We will also be packing up some items for care packages that will be sent to our great men and women serving in the military. I try to pick up extra items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, razors, eye drops, etc. when I can get them free or really cheap for these care packages. You should be able to find some organizations in your neighborhood this time of year that are collecting items. If you are a local reader, Letters from Home is collecting items, and they will even pick them up from you. (lettersfromhome . us @ gmail . com) remove spaces

Make a donation to a food drive. Churches, schools, even grocery stores will be holding food drives this month.

You can also clean out your closets and make donations of clothes you/your children have outgrown.

Make dinner for a neighbor.

Help an elderly friend or family member with their shopping, cleaning, etc.

Babysit for a friend so they can have a night out.

This month is also Adoption Awareness Month and Orphan Sunday is this Sunday, November 7th. We will be doing something for this, but we have not made any final decisions.

I’d love to hear what other ideas you may have!

So, when I discovered the 30-Day Giving Challenge this morning, I immediately jumped aboard. To be totally honest, I’ve never done anything like this before, and I have no clue how this will play out throughout the month of November. I can not wait to share this with the family this evening, so we can brainstorm and come up with some ideas on what we can do this month; however, today is day one, so I need to get my thinking cap on and figure out what I will give today.

“In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” ~ Acts 20:35

The above bible verse is the inspiration behind the 30-Day Giving Challenge. So what exactly are you suppose to do for this challenge? Well, you are suppose to GIVE something, whether it be big or small, your time, or a monetary donation, every single day for the entire month of November. You can read more about the Challenge here and be sure to follow them on Facebook too. So, who’s with me? Will you take the 30-Day Giving Challenge? I would love to hear from my readers on any ideas that you may have for 30 days of giving. I’ll try to post updates and any ideas that we come up with periodically throughout the month.
