Express Scripts acts as a middleman between pharmacies providing the health care service and employers and health plans who pay for the medications.  Walgreens and Express Scripts failed to renegotiate their contract, and as of January 1, 2012 Walgreens pharmacies nationwide are no longer a part of Express Scripts’ pharmacy provider network.
